What Would You Focus On If You Were No Longer Weighed Down By Your Unwanted Responsibilities?

If you want to add something meaningful to your life, like traveling to exotic places, composing beautiful music, or experiencing a new friendship in a foreign language, you will need to figure out how to eliminate other things from your daily routine. Your time and money are not infinite so if you want to add something important to your life, there is no way to avoid removing something else.

Unfortunately, these types of eliminations are very difficult to implement as they require removing something from your life that is already there for a specific reason. To make room for your passions are you going to sleep less? Are you going to spend less time with your family? Are you going to expend less energy at work? These are hard and often unrealistic trade-offs to make.

The Minimalist Mindset is not a book about tidying up (that book has already been written) and it is not a book about the philosophical exploration of minimalism (that book already exists too). Instead, The Minimalist Mindset is a book about a down and dirty process you can use to make deliberate decisions about how to prioritize how you live your life. This book walks you through the habits you can implement to consistently make realistic and sustainable trade-offs so that you can prioritize your passions and retake your freedom.

Best-selling author Danny Dover shows you a reproducible process he used to go from a boring life in a cramped apartment in Seattle, Washington, to a fulfilling multi-year adventure that included visiting nearly 100 countries, learning to play music, studying a new language, and the eventual completion of his more than 150-item Life List.

In This Step-by-Step Guide, You Will Learn How To

  • Automate your finances so that you can effortlessly save more money than you thought was possible (Chapter 6)
  • Spend more time with the people you love, while still doing the things you care about (Chapter 7)
  • Say no, in a polite and effective manner, to incoming asks for your time or expertise (Chapter 7)
  • Earn the clout necessary to work remotely from cities around the world (Chapter 8)
  • Take control of your e-mail inbox once and for all (Chapter 12)

If you are tired of working to enable others to follow their dreams rather than being able to pursue your own, The Minimalist Mindset is your escape hatch. Read this book now, and retake your freedom.

The Minimalist Mindset The Practical Path to Making Your Passions a Priority and to Retaking Your Freedom Danny Dover Books

I've read 3 books on minimalism, but this is by far the best+most practical. The author is able to pack about 2-300 practical techniques for simplification into this volumne, but I easily read the whole thing over the course of 3 days.

Reading, I kept a running checklist of new things I wanted to try. Among them:
• Treat food as fuel
• The importance of making list (mission accomplished!)
• Scanning my old photo archives
• Minimizing my email surface area
• Auditing my phone to minimize distraction

To be honest, the value in this book isn't so much the specific techniques, but more the "mindset" as the title refers to. Already I've noticed a change in my daily thinking which is causing me to re-evaluate some of my long held assumptions.

The Minimalist Mindset The Practical Path to Making Your Passions a Priority and to Retaking Your Freedom Danny Dover Books Reviews

I read the book and as a minimalist I agree with his ideas completely. However, it didn't bring anything new to the table. If you know nothing about minimalism this is an easy introduction to it. For experienced minimalists it doesn't have a whole lot to offer. Great book for young adults who want to learn more about being minimalist in real life.
A Wonderful Guide to a Minimalist Life

Danny Dover has written a wonderful guide to minimalistic thinking while discussing not only the ‘how to’ but also the ‘why’.
I follow his blog, Life Listed and consider myself reasonably knowledgeable on the subject of minimalism, but this book really made me think. It went much deeper into life than I had expected.

Danny explains his own journey and then outlines how the reader can get to the same mindset. He covers what hard parts to expect and he gives tips for overcoming these. The structured nature of the book makes it easy to follow and easy to skip around.
I am glad I bought this book and will read it again to reflect on how my own version of minimalism can take me somewhere new.

Its also making a nice spot on my coffee table and lots of our friends ate enjoying poking through the book. The section on finances males the book pay for itself tens tikes over easily.

Highly recommend.
Danny Dover has a talent for boiling complicated issues down to practical steps (see his blog for further evidence). If you’ve felt overwhelmed in life but have no idea where to start to fix it, this book will help. I especially recommend it for people who (like me) struggle with anxiety.
This book makes minimalism manageable. The chapters are actionable, diverse (as far as range of subjects) and approachable. It is clear that Danny has put a lot of thought into many angles of minimalism. I appreciated this as it resulted in a holistic framework for minimalism rather than just a list of life hacks. Not every subject that was covered applied to my life but the ones that did made a real impact. That reason alone justified the price of the book!

I don' t really think of myself as a minimalist, so I did not know what to expect, but this book changed my life. It introduced concepts that were well explained and how you can incorporate them into your life as little or as much as you would like. The personal stories were inspiring and really put into perspective how you can make changes in to give yourself a better quality of life. Setting priorities and making time for myself were things I was not good at and I find myself thinking things out more and making time for me. Hard things to do when you and your spouse both work full time and are a raising an active middle-schooler. If you are finding yourself just existing and want to live a happier life - read this book.
Danny has been writing about minimalism online for years. His writings compelled me to do a deeper dive into minimalism. I am a bit of a self development nut and minimalism seemed like a great next progression.

Purchasing any book Danny might work on is a no-brainer for me... however I was blown away by what I am learning from the book. Many similar books on the market are basically re-hashed material you can find by searching for "what is minimalism”..with low hanging fruit advice like “buy less stuff, get rid of the stuff you have”, etc ; The Minimalist Mindset is different in that it focuses on habits instead of single actions. This is a far better framework than the alternatives as habits are inherently much more sustainable than one-off life hacks. I consider myself an efficient person but this book has made me re-examine my process; I could be squeezing more juice out of certain procedures I previously paid little attention to.
